Dairy-Free Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie for First Trimester Bloating

Dairy-Free Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie for First Trimester Bloating

This Dairy-Free Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie came from finally understanding that even when I was bloated and uncomfortable, I still deserved to be picky about what I wanted.

I wanted strawberries and blueberries together in a smoothie, lightly creamy, no dairy, no banana, no oats, and nothing heavy sitting in my stomach. So that's what I made :)

On days when I wanted just one fruit instead of both, my Dairy-Free Strawberry Almond Smoothie or Dairy-Free Blueberry Banana Smoothie were my go-tos, but that morning I wanted exactly this and nothing else.

Why This Pregnancy Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe for First Trimester Works

  • Banana-free. Ideal for when banana aversions hit but fruit cravings remain.
  • Supports bloating-relief. Berries and flaxseed offer gentle fiber.
  • Dairy-free. Easier to digest when your stomach feels sensitive and tight.
  • Light but creamy. Satisfying without feeling thick or overwhelming.
  • Quick to make. Helpful on low-energy mornings.

How These Ingredients Support You & The Baby

The smoothie itself is like the drink-version of my Energizing Berry Smoothie Bowl: cold, smooth, and softly creamy. Except, this was easier to enjoy when my morning sickness made some mornings harder.

On days when my body could handle something heartier, I would reach for my Dairy-Free Strawberry Oat Smoothie or Dairy-Free Blueberry Banana Oat Smoothie for a more filling breakfast.

Prep Time: 5 minutes / Total Time: 5 minutes / Yields: 1-2 servings

  1. Pour the cashew milk into a blender.
  2. Add the frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, ground flaxseed, honey, and vanilla extract.

  4. Serve and enjoy!

Tips & Variations For the Best Pregnancy-Safe Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

  • Thin the smoothie: If it's too thick for your liking, adjust the consistency by adding 1/4 cup extra cashew milk at a time.
  • Swap the milk: Feel free to use 10-Minute Unsweetened Almond Milk, coconut milk, 5-Minute Oat Milk, rice milk, or your favorite plant-based milk. I even have a Sweetened Almond Milk (3-Ways!) recipe.
  • Make it heartier: Add 1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats, 2 tablespoons chia seeds, or 1/2 cup frozen banana chunks for a more filling drink.
  • Add protein: 1-2 tablespoons Sugar-Free Almond Butter or Homemade Peanut Butter can help you stay full longer when added to the smoothie.
  • Add ice: Throwing 1-3 ice cubes in the blender with the rest of the ingredients can make the smoothie extra cold, which often helps when nausea is at an all-time high.

What to Serve With This Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

Here are my favorite ways to enjoy it:

How to Store This Smoothie

  • Fridge: Transfer to an airtight container or jar (fill to the top to minimize air exposure) and store for up to 2 days. Shake/stir well before drinking, as natural separation occurs.
  • Freezer (smoothie packs): Except for the cashew milk and honey, add all the ingredients to a freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Add to the blender along with the remaining ingredients for a quick breakfast.

A Note From My Chaotic Kitchen

This smoothie was a quiet kind of comfort, the kind you sip slowly from a cold glass while your stomach settles.

A reminder that honoring cravings does not have to come with guilt, even during the most uncomfortable weeks. Sometimes listening to your body looks like choosing something light, simple, and kind, then letting that be enough.
