Dairy-Free Blueberry Pie Smoothie for First Trimester Cravings
Share
The Dairy-Free Blueberry Pie Smoothie came from a phase where pie cravings were relentless and completely unapologetic.
I wanted all of them, every kind, all the time. But even my cravings had to admit that eating pie for breakfast every few days was not going to end well. So I came up with a smoothie version using what I had on hand that morning: frozen blueberries.
This smoothie became my compromise, inspired by the same cravings as my Dairy-Free Apple Pie Smoothie and Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie Smoothie.

Why This Pregnancy Blueberry Pie Smoothie Recipe for First Trimester Works
-
Healthy alternative to sugary cravings. You get a pie-inspired flavor without excessive sugar.
- Filling & satifying. Oats and lots of fruit help keep you full.
- Easy on digestion. Dairy-free so it doesn't upset already sensitive stomachs.
-
Comforting texture. Thick and smooth without being overwhelming.
- 5-minute. Great for low-energy mornings when cooking isn't an option.
How These Ingredients Support You & The Baby

It tastes like the inside of a blueberry pie without the warm, buttery-crust heaviness.
It's cold and lightly sweet, with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. As you sip on it, it feels soothing rather than overwhelming and truly satisfies your craving for something sweet without turning on the oven.
On days when I wanted blueberries but not pie, I leaned on my Dairy-Free Blueberry Banana Smoothie or my Blueberry Oat Smoothie, depending on what my stomach could tolerate that morning.

Tips & Variations For the Best Pregnancy-Safe Blueberry Pie Smoothie
- Swap the milk: Any plain, plant-based milk works for this recipe. I love my 10-Minute Almond Milk, 5-Minute Oat Milk, rice milk, or coconut milk. If you prefer sweetened milk, try my Sweetened Almond Milk (3-Ways!).
- Thin it out: Reduce the oats to 2 tablespoons or skip them entirely for a much thinner drink. This is great when thick smoothies are a no-go.
-
Add protein: Throw 1-2 tablespoons 1-Ingredient Peanut Butter, chia seeds, or 1-Ingredient Almond Butter into the blender with the rest of the ingredients for some plant-based protein.
-
Add ice: Throwing 1-3 ice cubes in the blender with the rest of the ingredients can make the smoothie extra cold, which often helps when nausea is at an all-time high.
- More fruit: Adding 1/2 cup frozen berries to the blender can add extra flavor and nutrients.

What to Serve With This Blueberry Pie Smoothie
Here are my favorite ways to enjoy it:
- On its own.
- Digging into a slice of my Lemon-Blueberry Loaf.
- When my stomach can handle something warm, with a stack of my High Protein Blueberry Cottage Cheese Pancakes.
- Snacking on some Dairy-Free Snowball Cookies or Dairy-Free Strawberry Thumbprint Cookies.
- Nibbling on my Peanut Butter Banana Toast or Pistachio Butter Toast for a no-cook breakfast.
- Topped with a scoop of my Banana Nice Cream.
- With my Peanut Butter Banana Rice Cakes.
How to Store This Smoothie
- Fridge: Transfer to an airtight container or jar (fill to the top to minimize air exposure) and store for up to 2 days. Shake/stir well before drinking, as natural separation occurs.
- Freezer (smoothie packs): Except for the cashew milk and maple syrup, add all the ingredients to a freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Add to the blender along with the remaining ingredients for a quick breakfast.

A Note From My Chaotic Kitchen
This was one of those recipes that helped me feel like I wasn’t failing my cravings or my body. All I needed to do was re-image them for this temporary phase of pregnancy.
Doing what feels manageable is more than enough right now. Even if it means I don't get to bake pies or eat them whole right now, using fresh ingredients for a blueberry pie-tasting smoothie is more than alright too.
